Section 1. Important information regarding Heart Scan Portrush screening services
Heart Scan Portrush screening services are designed to detect certain undiagnosed heart conditions, some undiagnosed conditions can lead to sudden cardiac death in people between the ages of 14 and 35 years. You will need to complete a medical questionnaire as fully and accurately as possible. We will then carry out an Echocardiogram (Echo) which lasts approximately 30-45 minutes.
Any form of heart screening is not perfect and can have negative consequences – please note in particular that:
1. That you do not (or are not likely to have) a heart disease, condition, or abnormality when you do have one (a false negative); false negatives therefore provide false reassurances, or
2. That you do (or are likely to have) a specific heart disease, condition, or abnormality when you do not have one (a false positive)
Please note that we do not provide further tests or other courses of action that we may recommend as the result of screening, nor do we arrange them for you.
Please read our patient information leaflets for further details. It is included in our terms and conditions that we will send to you in advance of your appointment.
If you have any questions about our screening services, please contact us to arrange a confidential discussion.
Section 2. Information about diagnostic referrals
As well as providing self-referral screening services, Heart Scan Portrush takes diagnostic referrals from other doctors for private Echo and ECG. Please see our site for further information about our diagnostic services available.

In booking an appointment, you agree to pay for that Physiologist’s time regardless of the outcome of your results. Any additional time, investigation or treatment is chargeable at an additional cost. Cardiac Physiologists are responsible for their own clinical practice and for the advice, investigation and treatment they provide. Heart Scan Portrush is not liable for patients’ well-being outside of the clinic’s opening hours and does not provide an out-of-hours service. Our service is not suitable for those who are acutely unwell; we advise those with acute illnesses to call 999 (for emergencies), 111 (for non-emergencies). You should also consider contacting your regular GP or attend their local A&E.
Our physiologists can only consult with the patient themselves or the parent or legal guardian of a child under 16. We cannot conduct a consultation about a friend or relative without their permission, although we can give general health advice. The person must be in the UK at the time of the consultation or normally reside in the UK. Patients can access their health records in line with the UK Data Protection Act 2018 and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Late or Missed Appointments
If you are more than 20 minutes late to your appointment, the physiologist may not be able to see you. This decision is at the discretion of the physiologist you are scheduled with. In the event you are late for your appointment, and it can no longer be facilitated, the appointment will be classed as a missed appointment and can be rescheduled. If you cancel your appointment within 24 hours of your appointment time, this will be classed as a missed appointment and can be rescheduled.
Cancellation Policy
1: In-Person Appointments
As we book appointments at specific times, we could not see you if you arrive outside of the agreed times. So, if you arrive early, we will ask you to wait until your appointment time. Similarly, if you arrive late, we cannot extend the session to compensate. If you are over 20 minutes late and have not contacted us, we will assume you are not coming and will consider that cancellation without notice and you will be charged at the rate of the appointment cost.
2. Cancellations
We operate a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you cancel an appointment over 24-hours in advance, we will not charge you for the missed session. If you cancel after that, or if you cannot attend, you will still need to pay for the cost of the appointment as we have committed the time.
3. Exceptional circumstances
We recognise that emergencies happen, even if they are rare. If you know that you might not make an appointment, please let us know when you book it. We will try to be more accommodating in such circumstances. Similarly, if a genuine emergency prevented you from attending, and from letting us know, we could consider waiving or reducing the cancellation fee. Should you repeatedly make and cancel appointments, we might ask for a non-refundable pre-payment. We would not refund this payment, even if you cancel ahead of the usual 24-hour window.
4. If we cancel
Occasionally, circumstances might prevent us from delivering a session as agreed. We will give you as much notice as possible if this happens. We will not charge you for appointments we cancel and will do our best to re-book at a time that best suits you.
Refusing Access
We reserve the right to refuse access to our service to certain individuals. Examples include patients who behave violently, threateningly or aggressively; patients who do not agree to pay for our services; requests for potentially addictive or controlled drugs; unethical requests; those whose request we do not consider to be in their best interest.

If there is any problem with the Services we provide, please contact us and tell us as soon as reasonably possible, and we will investigate the problem under our complaints procedure and try to repair or fix the problem as soon as we can.
You have legal rights in relation to Services not carried out with reasonable skill and care, or if the materials we use are faulty or not as described. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions will affect these legal rights.
The Contract
These are the Terms and Conditions on which we supply Services to you and form the contract for services between you and us, no other person shall have any rights to enforce any of its terms. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms and Conditions to another organisation, and we will always notify you in writing if this happens, but this will not affect your rights or our obligations under these Terms and Conditions.
Section 14. Governing Law
These conditions of use are governed by the laws of Northern Ireland and you agree that the courts of Northern Ireland shall have exclusive jurisdiction in any dispute.
To the extent that any part of these conditions of use is found to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable by any court of competent jurisdiction such part shall to that extent be severed from the remaining terms all of which shall remain in full force and effect as permitted by law.
